Nader Art Museum Latin America (NAMLA) and Romero Britto have partnered for an exclusive exhibit titled Portraits. Britto is accepting commissions for original portraits from now through July 31. A portion of the proceeds from portrait sales will be donated to NAMLA. The completed portraits will be on view for a special exhibit from Oct. 26 through November 24 at NAMLA, located on 62 NE 27th St., Miami, FL.
Besides exhibiting the newly commissioned pieces, the exhibit will also showcase artworks from Britto’s existing collection of Portraits featuring prominent figures including Henri Matisse, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Pele, Muhammad Ali and Queen Elizabeth II, among others.
“Britto is indisputably one of the world’s most widely recognized artists,” said Gary Nader. “We are excited to partner with him on this project and be able to offer art devotees this unique opportunity.”
Born in Brazil in 1963, internationally renowned pop artist Romero Britto uses vibrant colors and bold patterns as a visual language of hope and happiness, reflecting his optimistic faith in the world around him. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in over 100 countries, including the Salon de la Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts exhibition at the Carrousel du Louvre in 2008 and 2010. In December 2013, Maria Elena and Carlos Slim Domit invited Britto to be the first living artist to exhibit at Museo Soumaya.
“People inspire me and painting someone is a very personal opportunity to be part of their history,” said Britto. “In turn they become part of mine and this to me is the most fulfilling part of being an artist –connecting with people.”
Britto has created public art installations for the 02 Dome in Berlin, John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, and Cirque Du Soleil at Super Bowl XLI. He has been credited with the largest monumental sculpture in Hyde Park (London) history. He served as an official artist for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa and Ambassador to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Britto’s pop sensibility has since lent itself to many collaborations with globally recognized brands such as: Audi, Bentley, Coca-Cola, Disney, Evian, Hublot, Mattel, and Technomarine, among others.
NAMLA is dedicated to showcasing a myriad of acclaimed art that fosters knowledge through a continuous process of appreciation and reinterpretation of modern and contemporary art from Latin American and its diaspora. Through a permanent collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, installations and other media, the museum’s audience can experience and appreciate what is considered to be one of the world’s most significant regions of today’s contemporary art scene.
