Windsor announces international polo star Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras has teamed up to play in the upcoming 2018 Windsor Charity Polo Cup set for February 17. Renowned for his successful global polo career, Figueras will bring his talents to the unique setting of Windsor as part of an exciting day of high-goal polo coupled with fine dining, music and other charitable activities.

Hailed as one of the leading polo players on the field today, the Argentine has played across the world, from Paris to England, and now at Vero Beach. He currently serves as Captain of the Black Watch Polo team and most recently played in a charity polo match in Wellington against His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales.

On February 17 Figueras will take to the field at Windsor with a roster of other top-level international players including Lucas Criado, Magoo Laprida, Kris Kampsen and Malcolm Borwick. With additional high-caliber players to be announced soon, Windsor anticipates an intense match.

Co-chaired by the Hon. Hilary M. Weston, co-founder and Creative Director of Windsor and former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Salvatore Ferragamo, grandson of the esteemed Italian footwear designer and leader of his family’s expanding wine business, the Windsor Charity Polo Cup is recognized as the premier high-goal charity polo match of the season. Alongside the polo action, the charity event will be a family affair with festivities including tailgating, an elegant luncheon, live music, gourmet concession stands, and a specialty retail village. Attendees can also partake in a high-end raffle, enjoy a luxury car display, and more.

Proceeds from the 2018 event will provide support to individuals and their families who are struggling with an Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diagnosis and to help fund research to find a cure. Funds raised will be distributed equally to the national organization, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and locally to the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County. Last year, the Windsor Charity Polo Cup raised $250,000 for Alzheimer’s charities at the local and national level.

Polo remains an important focus for the Windsor community, dating back to its founding in 1989 with the polo field being among the first amenities constructed. Today, under the direction and personal guidance of Director of Equestrian Operations Max Secunda, the equestrian program at Windsor is flourishing with 26 stables, 14 paddocks, and a jumping and dressage arena. The full-scale Equestrian Centre offers boarding, maintenance, lessons and riding for recreation, as well as a 170-yard-long multi-purpose stick and ball field and full-sized polo field for exhibition matches.
