Designers Prove 3 Marbles are Better than One in New Bath Trend

While covering a bathroom in the same marble used to be the norm, designers are now experimenting with using several different marble colors, patterns and finishes to create eye-catching combinations that elevate the overall aesthetic of their bathrooms.

An impressive and unmistakable addition to the Manhattan skyline, 53 West 53 is the striking condominium tower rising 1,050 feet above the Museum of Modern Art in the heart of Midtown. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel with interiors by the legendary Thierry Despont, 53 West 53 features 161 residences, including full-floor homes and duplex penthouses with private elevators. A stand-out component of each home is the bespoke primary baths, designed as spa-like sanctuaries that invite relaxation and rejuvenation with a rich yet soft palette and museum-quality finishes. Elegantly appointed in polished Noir St. Laurent marble, high-honed Verona limestone, and polished Persian golden travertine, these windowed baths feature two separate custom-carved vanities, polished nickel Dornbracht fixtures throughout, a cast iron Lefroy Brooks soaking tub, freestanding steam shower, and a private water closet with a Villeroy & Boch commode and bidet. Italian-finished Verona limestone in a warm neutral tone distinguishes the floors and baseboards, vanity sinks and tub surround, as well as the integral shower seat.

The Astor
Originally built by the legendary William Waldorf Astor in 1901, The Astor is now being restored and upgraded for the modern buyer while retaining the pre-war character and charm for which Manhattan’s Upper West Side is known. Located in the midst of one of New York’s most established neighborhoods, The Astor is nestled between two of the city’s most coveted green spaces, offering immediate access to the scenic waterfront Riverside Park and iconic Central Park. One High Line
Developed by Witkoff Group & Access Industries, One High Line is a luxury condominium project spanning a full city block in Manhattan’s West Chelsea neighborhood. One High Line is comprised of two sculptural twisting travertine towers designed by the world-class Danish architect Bjarke Ingels. The 26-story East Tower interiors are designed by Paris-based Gilles & Boissier and feature 87 residences whose baths are dripping in marble. The primary bathrooms are dressed in floor-to-ceiling marble, including Honed Arabescato Vagli marble flooring, African St Laurent marble walls, Honed Arabescato Vagli Oro countertops, and Statuario marble surrounding the Kaldewei standalone tubs. The East Tower’s powder rooms have even more marble and stone features, including Honed Crystal White stone flooring and countertops as well as Honed Staturio marble walls.

The secondary bathroom exhibits 1930s flare with Oriental white countertops and Cantrio undermount sinks with Lefroy Brooks polished chrome fixtures and faucets.
