The weather is finally warming up, the April showers have disappeared and its feels like summer is on its way, with an incredible line up of Monaco events in May to get you in the mood!
It’s fair to say that there is never a dull moment in Monaco, from heart-warming Christmas markets in December to art festivals every spring. But the atmosphere really starts to get electric at this time of year when the Principality prepares itself for what is arguably the biggest event of the year – the Monaco Grand Prix.
This year’s Formula 1 Grand Prix will take place from May 23 to 26 around the streets of Monaco. While its popularity is never in doubt (some 200,000 people come to watch the exhilarating race each year and 110 million tuned in to see it on television last year), the Grand Prix is not the only event taking place in the Principality this month. Here are our favorite Monaco events in May.
E Grand Prix
The Principality of Monaco under the sovereign rule of H.S.H. Prince Albert II is a champion of environmental causes so it is very fitting that one of the first E Grand Prix was held in Monaco in 2015. This year’s Formula E Monaco – Round 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship’s Season 5 – will take place just two weeks before the world-famous Monaco F1 Grand Prix, on May 11. The event has grown enormously in popularity since Round 1 of Season 1 in Beijing in 2014 and Monaco’s event will see 11 international teams (including Monaco-owned Venturi) and 22 drivers compete for pole position this month. https://www.fiaformulae.com/
Monte Carlo Fashion Week
Monaco is not all about cars! One of our favorite Monaco events in May is the Monte Carlo Fashion week. Held under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco, the Monte Carlo Fashion Week will be held this year in the Chapiteau de Fontvieille from May 15 to 19. Here, just metres from the Mediterranean, more than 30 luxury brands will be participating in a number of prestigious events, from Coast Society to Philippe Plein.
Monaco Grand Prix
The Monaco Grand Prix is without doubt the must-attend race of the F1 calendar, with a hair-raising circuit which every talented driver dreams of winning. Fans come from all over the world to watch the cars fly around the 3.34km circuit 78 times. The circuit weaves its way around the city and is tantalizingly close to some of our property for sale in Monte-Carlo. Last year’s winner was Daniel Ricciardo for Red Bull Racing Tag Heuer. The event will this year take place from May 23 to 26, with the principal race taking place on the final Sunday. Monaco residents will be rooting for their local superstar Charles Leclerc. Amber Lounge Fashion Show
The Amber Lounge, located in Monaco’s Méridien Beach Plaza, has since 2003 forged a reputation as THE place to be during the Monaco Grand Prix. Its exclusive lifestyle experience, which includes race viewing, fine dining and extravagant after parties, is enjoyed by the world’s jet-set and it is the go-to destination for F1 drivers after the races. The Amber Lounge Fashion show, which will be staged on May 24 this year, is an integral part of the glamour the venue is famous for and the only event where the models are F1 drivers. This year, the drivers will be dressed by award-winning Canadian menswear designer Christopher Bates. Funds raised from the traditional live auction will go to Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia. https://amber-lounge.com/
Top Marques Monaco
Previously held in April, the world’s most luxurious auto show Top Marques Monaco will this year take place the week after the Grand Prix, allowing supercar fans to indulge in a full week of auto heaven! This year, more than 60 supercars will be showcased at the Grimaldi Forum, from May 30 to June 3, with a number of superboats, watches and jewelry collections also on display and for sale. www.topmarquesmonaco.com
