Aspen’s Unbridled Love of Horses Celebrated at Post Valentine’s Day Event

Aspenites are champing at the bit for a post-Valentine’s Day soiree that celebrates the love of horses and horsepower that heals.

On Friday, February 15, the town’s elite equestrians and visiting city slickers will join hosts Brigid Brumby, Janie Jacobs, Gabrielle Greeves and Sissy DeMaria Koehne to saddle up for a good cause at Covet Jewelers.

Guests will enjoy champagne and a bevy of “shiny” and edible treats from Covet and the Chocolate Moose. While they sip and shop, they will hear from Gabrielle Greeves, Executive Director of WindWalkers, about the many ways that therapeutic horseback riding is transforming the lives of children and adults facing some of life’s most difficult hurdles.

Jewelers to the Starwood set, Janie Jacobs and Brigid Brumby, are donating a portion of all sales to Give Back for Special Equestrians, an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) that provides therapeutic horseback riding scholarships in Florida, New York and Colorado and whose mission is to share the joy of horses and horsemanship for those facing some of life’s most difficult challenges like Autism, Paralysis, Spina Bifida and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

“To a child or adult with a physical, development or emotional disability, life looks a lot brighter on horseback. The power and warmth of a horse strengthens and tones muscles, improves balance, head control and coordination, builds patience and self-esteem and offers a sense of freedom and equality,” said Sissy De Maria Koehne, Co-founder, Give Back for Special Equestrians. “We are delighted to support the good work of WindWalkers in the Aspen valley and to celebrate our mutual love of horses and their incredible power to uplift and change the lives of children and adults suffering from challenges.”

In Aspen, Give Back for Special Equestrians supports, WindWalkers an equine-assisted learning and therapy center with a family-centered approach. The Colorado non-profit’s mission is to provide a variety of equine-assisted therapies to aid in the development and growth of those with challenges, be they physical, neurological, emotional, behavioral or psychological. All proceeds raised that evening will directly impact WindWalkers.

Presented by Monaco Yacht Club & Residences Miami Beach, the new luxury Bayfront development curated by Piero Lissoni in Miami Beach, the glamourous evening serves as a kick off to “Hot to Trot” WindWalker’s most important annual summer fundraiser.

“We are deeply moved to have the support of Give Back for Special Equestrians. They have been so incredibly generous to help us with providing the much needed equine-assisted therapy to those in our program striving to overcome serious emotional challenges,” said Gabrielle Greeves, Executive Director, WindWalkers. “We are so grateful for the support of all of our sponsors including: Monaco Yacht Club & Residences Miami Beach, Covet, Janie Jacobs Jewels, Aspen Sojourner magazine and the Chocolate Moose for making this possible.”
