Carlos Zapata Unveils New Mixed-Use Residential Tower in Quito

Carlos Zapata Quito

Award-winning architect Carlos Zapata just unveiled a new, mixed-use residential tower in Quito, one of the city’s tallest buildings and most prominent on its skyline, positioned on the northern edge of La Carolina Park. This marks the most prominent project to date for the internationally renowned architect in his hometown.

The defining characteristic that gives the tower its name, Unique, is the three-story opening at the midpoint of the 24-story building that creates an open air communal area featuring a pool and lounge. The design creates a more visually porous structure that integrates seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, embracing the natural qualities of Quito’s open sky and striking vistas, cradled in the Andes mountains.

As Zapata was raised in Quito, this personal connection influenced a design that is very attuned to the unique experience of living in the city and the inspiration that the striking landscape and dynamic local culture provides. Though he has worked in his hometown before, this is Zapata’s first project with Quito’s leading developers, Uribe Schwarzkopf.

Unique is a bold mark on the city, and features top of the line amenities, leading eco-efficiency standards, which the team at Uribe Schwarzkopf is known for embracing.
