The Newest Travel Accessory for Private Club Members: a Pilot’s License

As remote destinations and private clubs have become more desirable to the ultra-wealthy, those looking for utmost ease in lifestyle have found a way to avoid the travel delays that come along with isolated locations…a pilot’s license.

At places like Whitetail Club in McCall Idaho, the club has seen a surge in this trend with many members recently earning their pilot licenses to fly their own airplanes in and out of the town which is located about 3 hours from Boise.

This trend is popping up at many private clubs from Kohanaiki in Kona, Hawaii to Napa Valley as many club members wish to forgo the headache of long travel days and learn a new skill through flying. While many people learn how to fly, the hobby is particularly popular among ultra-high net-worth individuals.

Getting a private pilot license (PPL) isn’t overly expensive for the majority of students (roughly $10,000), however, purchasing a plane has primarily been reserved for those who are willing to spend more than $250,000 to start.
